There's a stain on the driveway about where the transmission on the van sits. And the transmission felt like it was slipping when I was driving. There's no doubt about it, transmission's on the way out.
Seals are leaking, and it's slipping. Probably needs a rebuild, which is probably more than the van itself is worth.
Stupid piece of malaise-era designed GM shit .
I should expect this kind of shit from a 21 year old car though. But fuck it's so annoying.
I'd drive a damn Prius if it meant I didn't have to drive that slow, fuel sucking, old, heavy, beat to shit van ever again.
Have a couple cars I saw at Target.
The Solstice wasn't a GXP though. :(
There was also a bright green Sonic RS hatchback. It looked amazing .

That sucks. Having an unreliable vehicle is an unnecessary stress in life. I hope you can find something better soon.

Hoon it till it brakes.

I don't even have to rely on it every day. It's just when I drive it I can't be happy about it. I shouldn't hate what I drive.

it's okay you need a better car anyway

Time to buy an El Camino

Here's the thing though; my parents will just fix it again and send me on my merry fucking way.
I bet we've spent enough on that thing in the last year we could've just bought me a different car!

That's a depressing thought.

There's an 80-something one for sale. Pretty clean actually.

Yes.

I somehow like the van, but also wish you get a better car.
This is also a good representation of your mind.

Here a replacement 1964 AMC Rambler

When I pulled away and felt stuff spinning up and the wheels not, I actually yelled at the top of my lungs. I'm so fed up with the damn thing.

Write down everything that goes wrong and then write the price beside it. Then show them what run down to the ground vans go for. Make a chart. Charts always work, unless you are dealing with morons.

Dude holy shit that's awesome.

It's only worth something like $1,000 in the state it's in cosmetically. I know we just spend $250 changing plugs, wires, brake rotors, front bearings, and a couple other things. We spent like $400-something doing brake lines, rear drums, and a couple things needed to pass inspection. Then we spend like $250 on new rear tires. And I doubt fixing the trans will be $100.

I bet you could scrap the van and have enough to buy that.

Basically your pumping blood into a body without a heart.
![]() 10/19/2014 at 21:38 |

Basically, yes.
But my parents like it too much to get rid of it. I blame us owning it for the last 17 years for them not wanting to dump the thing into a lake.

Who likes a Safari/Astro? I always thought of them like PT Cruisers, you end up with by circumstance or past sins.

A lot of people it seems. They even their own like enthusiast form.
It probably wasn't a terrible ride when newer.

Oh come on now, just started slipping? Has another 2+ years of babied driving left in it, easy!

Try this. You might get lucky. It worked in the Buick.

Ha. It's probably been doing it for a while, I've just been ignoring it because it wasn't terrible. It's terrible now.

It was one of the better at what it was, it's just what it was.
![]() 10/19/2014 at 21:44 |

Just might have to try that. At least as a temporary fix.

I'd have one over a Grand Caravan or Aerostar, that's for sure. But yeah, minivan.
Why couldn't we have kept my dad's Tahoe and gotten rid of this when he bought his Silverado!?
![]() 10/19/2014 at 21:49 |
|
I would almost bet the Tahoe got close to the same MPG's.
![]() 10/19/2014 at 21:51 |

But has two more cylinders, almost 100 more hosepower, and isn't a fucking minivan!

I swear, some of you guys on here have too high of standards to own true beaters. Slipping transmissions... engine fires... burnt out taillights... ARE WE NOT MEN?
![]() 10/19/2014 at 21:52 |

And you don't have to remove the wheel wells to change the spark plugs!

I assume that old BMW fell through.

I know that feel.

Heh. That Civic looks exactly like mine. '09 EX-L Coupe in Rallye Red. It's a nice look for a cheap little econobox.

It certainly won't hurt. It'll be worth the $13 to give it a shot.
